Good
Shepherd Shelter
A Place to
Heal After Violence Strikes at Home
At
Good Shepherd Shelter, the mothers choose to break
the cycle of abuse and take on the leadership of and
responsibility for their families. The shelter
provides a safe and loving community where mothers
can address the painful past and begin new,
violence-free lives. The long-term care guides
families through the complex social, psychological
and educational issues that confront them. They
provide families with apartments, an adult learning
center (which includes but is not limited to
household and financial management and development
of job and computer skills), a preschool and
elementary tutorial center to provide children a
secure and affirming environment, and aftercare to
offer the moms a reliable support network to ensure
a successful transition after the family has left
the shelter.
How you can help:
Good Shepherd Shelter is totally supported through
private donations and greatly helped by committed
volunteers. Your contribution will help families
begin the healing that leads to new life.

Handcrafting Justice
This is one of the most amazing websites that you
will ever come by. The Good Shepherd Sisters' are
helping women and children in developing countries
to design their own destinies with dignity,
producing a sufficient and sustainable income rather
than being exploited by others.Women and children of
14 different countries make all of the products for
sale. When on the site you can pick a country and it
will give you information on what they make and what
the issues are in that country. The prices are very
reasonable and you are supporting Fair Trade, it
really is amazing.

Vera House
Vera House was founded in 1977 by a group of
concerned individuals led by Sister Mary Vera, CSJ,
who recognized the need for emergency sheltering
services for women in crisis. This original mission
blossomed into a wide range of domestic violence
services including outreach and advocacy services,
domestic violence education programming, children's
counseling services. Hot Moms Club supports Vera
House and their "Onward and Upward" program, a 10
session self-discovery and skills building program
for women.
