There are so many ways to give back to the community, so the first step is to find out what suits you.  Once you find that charity that touches your heart, here are a few ways you can help out;  (also keep in mind, when you donate it's usually a tax write off, just remember to get a receipt and/or make a list of what was donated)

  • Donate your old clothes & household items to a homeless shelter, domestic abuse shelter, Vietnam Veterans, the Cancer Society, etc.

  • Have a garage sale and donate the proceeds to the charity of your choice.

  • Volunteer for 1-2 hours a month serving food or just helping out at a shelter.
  • Become a mentor to a child.
  • For the holiday's visit a retirement, elderly, or home for the disabled and sing songs, bring baked goods or help with decorations.
  • Go to a children's hospital and sing songs, tell stories, do a puppet show or read books.

  • Check your local church, community group, schools, etc. for any fundraisers they might have and need help with.

  • Volunteer at an animal shelter or animal rescue group.

  • Donate old towels & sheets to your veterinary hospital
  • If you have a specific training/talent that you do, (yoga, dance, art, writing, crafts, etc.) teach them at a home for troubled youth.

  • Most charities can use an extra set of eyes, ears & hands, so if you have a charity that really interests you, contact them to see if they need volunteers.

  • Donate money; you can donate to any charity that interests you...or maybe there are a few that you really like.
